Reducing Malnutrition Through Behavior Change and Better Services

In Rajasthan’s tribal regions, child malnutrition is a major issue. It happens because many mothers are weak (anaemic), have babies too close together, don’t use health services enough, and eat poorly. CmF is helping families learn healthier habits and making government health services better by training workers and giving them support.

Strategy & Intervention Areas

1. Building Better Anganwadis

• Upgrading Anganwadis with tools to check children’s growth and provide health and nutrition services.

• Keeping them clean with safe water and handwashing habits.

2. Changing Habits Through Social Art

• Training workers regularly on growth checks, feeding babies and young kids, and caring for newborns at home.

• Giving frontline workers hands-on help.

3. Strengthening Government Systems

• Helping Anganwadi workers, Ashas, and nurses (ANMs) share data and work together.

• Supporting government efforts like Poshan Abhiyan, vaccinations, and anaemia reduction.

4. Encouraging Communities to Fight Malnutrition

• Teaching women and teenage girls about nutrition and health.

• Using village health committees (VHWSNCs) and self-help groups (SHGs) to share nutrition knowledge.

• Visiting homes to give advice and connect families to government help.

Our Journey So Far

• Made 179 Anganwadis and 168 village health committees (VHWSNCs) active.

• Got 93.7% of mothers to prenatal check-ups, 98.5% to deliver in hospitals, and 91.3% to breastfeed only for 6 months.

• Lowered underweight kids to 29.6% in our areas, compared to 50.4% in Sirohi district (NFHS-4 data).

• Trained 1,010 workers on growth checks, newborn care, feeding, and cleanliness.
